Despite all of the advancements made in smartphone technology in recent years, battery life is one thing that seems to let the tech down. Even with recent iPhone models, which of course are a leading brand in the market, the battery life has generally been poor. Spend a full day outside without a charger and you probably won’t make it home with a phone that’s still switched on. So what have Apple and other manufacturers done to improve batteries, and which smartphone has the best battery life?
iPhone 11 Pro Max
Apple, with its recent launch of the iPhone 11 series, did a good job with the battery performance of the devices. The top of the line iPhone 11 Pro Max packs a 3969 mAh battery, and the story behind how Apple managed this improvement of about 5 hours more backup than the previous iPhone is neat.
The new Super Retina XDR display on the iPhone 11 series is up to 15% more power-efficient than the older iPhone displays. To add to that, the A13 Bionic sports four custom high-efficiency cores coupled with Apple’s Power Management Unit work with excellent coordination to deliver only the necessary power to the components of the iPhone.
With standard usage, the iPhone 11 Pro Max can last up to 2 days. Apple also throws in a 30W fast charger that can fill 50% of the juice in just 30 min of charge, making the iPhone 11 Pro Max the best iPhone in terms of battery life by far.
Asus ROG Phone II
The next one up is the Asus ROG Phone II, which is a gaming-specific phone with all the specs maxed out, including a 6000 mAh battery. The Snapdragon 855+ SoC powers it along with a 6.59-inch FHD+ 120 Hz display, which is the best bet you can get for gaming. Thanks to the bulky design, there was enough space to fit in a 6000 mAh colossal battery. Given that it is a gaming smartphone, the battery consumption is on the higher side, although it has battery-saving features. In terms of charging, it supports 30W Quick Charge 4.0 and USB PD 3.0, which can charge about 4000 mAh of the battery in 58 minutes.
Samsung Galaxy A90 5G
Samsung’s A series is filled with sound devices, and they recently launched the Galaxy A90 5G which packs a 4500 mAh battery. As per tests by Tech Advisor, the Galaxy A90 5G has surpassed the 12 hr mark. Although it has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display panel, which is surprising. This stat makes this device the best of all the Samsung Galaxy devices out in the market.
Xiaomi Mi Note 10
The last one on the list is the Xiaomi Mi Note 10, which is the latest addition to the Mi Note lineup by Xiaomi. It packs a 5260 mAh battery, has a 6.48-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, and is powered by the Snapdragon 730G. Thanks to the low-end chipset, the device crossed the 13 hr mark in synthetic tests performed by the folks at Tech Advisor.
Overall, if one were to choose the best battery life smartphone currently, the iPhone 11 Pro Max takes the spot with its heartening leap in battery life compared to its predecessor. However, all smartphone makers are gradually coming up with new battery technologies and optimization, which in turn increase the battery backup and decrease the amount of time the phones need to be charged.
