Apple Releases iOS 11.2 for iPhone and iPad, Includes Apple Pay Cash and a Bug Fix

Apple has released iOS 11.2, pushing out the major iPhone and iPad update in what appears to be an early launch to address devices affected by the December 2 crash bug. The update was released to iOS users this morning, and includes Apple Pay Cash, the company’s peer-to-peer payment platform.

Support for faster wireless charging on iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus with 7.5W Qi chargers. In addition, iOS 11.2 adds a Now Playing control for Apple TV in Control Center and a bug fix for Calculator, Added information about the date-related local notifications bug fix.

Here’s how to disable App notifications:

1.Tap Settings > Notifications.

2.Tap an app, then turn off Allow Notifications. Repeat this step for each app.

3. Update your device to iOS 11.2.

4. After updating, tap Settings > Notifications and turn Allow Notifications on again for each app.

iOS 11.2 also adds support for Apple Cash Pay. The service lets you send, receive, and request money from friends through iMessage.

Apple Pay Cash is only available in the US, though it has not been activated in the country. The update also adds support for fast wireless charging for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. These phones earlier supports fast charging up to 5 watts, and with the new update adds to 7.5 watts of wireless charging. Additionally, there are some updated live wallpapers for the iPhone X. Users can download iOS 11.2 on the compatible device by going to General>Settings>Software update.

Nokia is looking ahead with its Research & Development setup in Bengaluru getting ready on the 5G mobile technology and much more.”We are increasing staffing at our R&D centre in Bengaluru in 2018 to focus on next-generation technologies spanning 5G mobile network architecture, Voice over LTE (Long-Term Evolution or a a standard for high-speed wireless communication for mobile devices and data terminals), cloud and big data analytics,” Nokia R&D centre head Rupa Santosh told reporters in Bengaluru.

Located at Manyata Embassy Park here, the facility was inaugurated by Karnataka Minister for IT, BT and Tourism Priyank Kharge.

The Nokia centre will provide a huge opportunity for bright engineers to work on upcoming technologies which will change the way we live and work,” Head of the technology centre Rupa Santosh said.

Nokia is already working with Indian service providers including Bharti Airtel and BSNL to help them transform their networks for 5G. This center will further allow Indian and global service providers to leverage Nokia’s technology leadership and develop capabilities for future technologies.

Uber has Confirmed a Massive Data Breach Affecting 57 Million Users and Drivers

Uber has confirmed a massive data breach that took place a year-ago hacking attack that stole personal information about more than 57 million of the beleaguered ride-hailing service’s customers and drivers.

Uber’s new CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has now written a blog post explaining the security incident in detail. According to Uber chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi: “None of this should have happened, and I will not make excuses for it. While I can’t erase the past, I can commit on behalf of every Uber employee that we will learn from our mistakes.”

Uber said it doesn’t think riders need to worry. The company thinks about 600,000 drivers were affected, and it’s offering them credit monitoring and identity theft protection.

According to Bloomberg, the hack cost Chief Security Officer Joe Sullivan and an associate their jobs because they sought to keep the hack quiet. Part of that effort, Bloomberg reported. It is also being reported that the many paid the hackers $100,000 to keep quiet and delete the data. Under European and Australian laws that will come into effect next year, that $100,000 is small fry compared to the millions of dollars it could cost them.

The breach happened under the watch of former chief executive Travis Kalanick, who knew about the cyberattack. His former deputy, chief security officer Joe Sullivan, a former federal prosecutor and senior Facebook executive, covered up the breach, the publication reported.

LinkedIn’s new Career Advice feature rolled out in U.S., U.K. and India

Linkedin, the Microsoft-owned professional networking platform, on Wednesday launched its “Career Advice” feature that aims to help its over millions of members within the country seek professional guidance from its network of experienced mentors.

Sr. Product Manager Anwesha Jalan from Linkedin announced the launch of the new feature in a blog post.

Talking about the launch of the new feature, she said: “More than 80% of professionals on LinkedIn have stated they either want to have a mentor or be one to others, but knowing where to start can be the trickiest part. In fact, of those who want to have or become a mentor, more than half don’t know where to begin and more than one-third have a hard time finding the right person.”

LinkedIn’s Career Advice feature is now rolling out to users in the U.S., U.K., India and Australia. Jalan said the feature will launch globally “in the coming months.”

Instagram is Testing a New Hashtag Following Feature

Instagram seemingly testing a new feature with it’s small user base. Feature was first spotted by a Twitter user, and, The Next Web said that this feature also showed up to one of their team members.

There isn’t anything fancy here though. We can just search for a hashtag and tap on the Follow button to start following it.

When anyone follow a hashtag, then they will start seeing all the top posts and recent stories in their feed that have that hashtag in them.

Instagram declined to say more when we asked about the test, so it’s unclear just how many people have access to the test or how likely it is that you’ll see the feature become a mainstay. The social network frequently tests features that aren’t guaranteed to hit the mainstream. As Instagram users expect to see this update with it’s wider set of audience next month.

OnePlus 5T Set to Launch with Identical OnePlus 5 Price Tag

OnePlus announced that OnePlus 5T will finally be unveiled to the world on November 16 at a glittering launch event in New York.
